The original bridge structure on County Road 337A was in need of a replacement structure. Archuleta County was eligible for Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) bridge replacement funds becoming a Local Agency project. The bridge design and plans were developed by an engineering consultant for the County. DES partnered with the engineering design consultant for the construction phase of the project.

The existing bridge remained open for use during construction while the new bridge was constructed. This project included drilling of caissons, bridge abutment construction, pre-cast concrete girders, concrete bridge deck, bridge railing, guard rail, extension of culverts, riprap slope protection and demolition of the existing bridge. DES provided construction services in review of the work items, project documentation and closeout with CDOT.
